Meet Karen

One of my greatest strengths—and deepest joys—is helping people create meaningful, lasting change. I love supporting individuals and couples as they move from surviving to thriving, reconnect with their authentic selves, and experience greater aliveness. It would be an honor to accompany you on your journey toward deeper self-understanding and well-being.

Our work is a collaborative process of becoming more present to yourself and your life. As awareness grows, so does your capacity to strengthen your inner resources, ease emotional pain, deepen your relationships, and create a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. For more than 35 years, I have had the privilege of helping individuals and couples navigate their own paths toward healing, connection, and authenticity.

What I bring to our work is compassion, respect, creativity, and the wisdom that comes from walking my own path of growth and healing. As a two-time cancer survivor, mother, caregiver, and lifelong seeker, I have discovered that even life's greatest challenges can become opportunities for transformation. These experiences continue to deepen my ability to help others reconnect with their innate resilience, wisdom, and authentic selves.

As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #132807), I am working toward licensure under the supervision of Francia Kappeler, LMFT (#109192). I offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples in person in Santa Rosa, California, as well as online and by phone. You can learn more about my training and credentials below.

Let's discuss how I can support you.

Karen's Journey

Creativity has been a lifelong calling. In my mid-twenties, I earned a B.A. in Fine Arts. Soon afterward, when my son was just one year old, I was diagnosed with cancer. Instinctively, I turned to my creativity, along with other forms of psychosocial support, as a path to self-discovery and healing.

Rather than becoming a death sentence, my diagnosis became a turning point. Motivated by a deep desire to strengthen my will to live and awaken my inner capacity for healing, I committed myself to understanding who I was at a deeper level.

During my illness, I found profound strength and insight through one of the country's first mind-body-spirit programs, the Cancer Support and Education Center (CSEC) in Menlo Park, California. The experience was so life-giving and transformative that I felt called to support others facing cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. I completed the CSEC Facilitator Training Program, served on staff for seven years, and then became Executive Director for the following ten years. The emotional freedom and personal growth I experienced inspired me to earn my M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco in 1991.

In 2009, I discovered SoulCollage® and became a Facilitator the following year. This intuitive, creative process has become a beautiful way to integrate my love of art with personal growth and self-discovery. I offer SoulCollage® gatherings in a variety of settings and, when appropriate, incorporate the process into my psychotherapy practice.

I believe life is a precious gift. Its deepest value is found through authentic connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the larger mystery of being alive. With openness, curiosity, compassion, and respect, I consider it a privilege to walk alongside others as they discover greater meaning, resilience, and wholeness on their own journey.
